What sump pump services involves
A sump pump collects groundwater in a pit and pumps it away from your foundation before it can flood a lower level or soak the soil under the slab. In North Texas, where heavy spring storms can follow months of drought, poor drainage around a home can do real damage.
We service all makes and models, including submersible pumps, which sit in the pit and run quietly, and pedestal pumps, which mount above the pit and are easier to reach for service.
Mesquite Plumbing installs new sump pumps, repairs pumps that run constantly, hum, or fail to start, replaces float switches and check valves, and tests the system so it is ready before the next storm. Most pumps should be checked about once a year.
To test a sump pump, slowly pour a bucket of water into the pit. The float should rise and the pump should start and empty the pit. If it does not, call.

Questions
Sump Pump Services FAQs
Can you tell me how to test a sump pump?
To test if your sump pump is functioning correctly: Pour a five-gallon bucket of water into the sump pit. Ensure the sump pump adequately drains the water. For battery backup-powered pumps, disconnect the power and repeat these steps. Confirm that the sump pump correctly utilizes the backup battery and drains the water. If your sump pump isn’t draining water or utilizing the backup battery as it should, contact your local Mesquite Plumbing branch for sump pump services.
What should I do if my sump pump fails?
If your sump pump fails, call us for emergency service at (972) 285-5938. Follow these steps if instructed: Test the power to ensure the outlet functions correctly for other devices. If that doesn’t work, manually test the float switch by removing excess water from the pit using a bucket to prevent further water damage. Check that the float switch isn’t dislodged or jammed, and lift it. Ensure debris or foreign objects aren’t clogging your pump. If the issue persists, turn off the power to your sump pump and inspect the impeller for clogs by removing the screen at the bottom of the unit. If none of the above resolves the issue, there may be a malfunctioning part or a leak. Keep your system turned off and wait for a service professional to assess the situation.
